BENT / BAD BANGERS AT REAL BAD MUSIC 4 JULY 2015

Poster by Heidi Cutlack

Real Bad Music host a fundraiser show for Bent in support of their upcoming tour of Japan.  Many bands played and all had something unique to convey but I only filmed Bad Bangers and Bent.

Bad Bangers are a new 2-piece band with Alex Campbell from Gunk on guitar/vox.  Fresh sounding weirdo punk in drop D - consider me a fan.

Here is Bent performing "Skeleton Man", one of my favourites of theirs and also *trivia* the first song they ever wrote.

And here's a picture of Parts Unknown Weight Unknown which is a project of Mark Woodley and features a collection of the Brisbane old guard.

SEWERS / SPRAY PAINT AT WOOLLY MAMMOTH 12 JUNE 2015

Woolly Mammoth is Woodland under new ownership/management.  It's still very similar in appearance/setup to when it was Woodland minus a few aesthetic pieces and the pinball machine.  No drink specials though and only expensive beer - what the heck up with that.

Sewers

Spray Paint from Austin, TX, USA grace Brisbane for the first time playing their first show of a national tour in support of latest album Punters On A Barge.  Sewers were in support slot mode, gearing up for their impending invasion of the USA and release of new album Weight.

Spray Paint

Spray Paint were very decent despite a lousy turnout.  At one point Sewers frontman Shan Corrigan joined the band on vox for a drunken adlib cover of the Country Teasers tune Golden Apples.

Blank Realm were also meant to play but couldn't due to time constraints.  Gravel Samwidge played first, here is a pic I took of them do u leik it

BENT / 100% AT PETRIE TCE HOUSESHOW 15 FEB 2015

Poster by Grace Stevenson
It's been 3 years since my last post on this blog and the Brisbane music landscape has changed considerably.  New bands, new venues and new weird lookin' young people, but the ol' DIY fundamentals are still kicking around in this strange future called 2015.  Case in point was this Sunday afternoon house show in Petrie Tce.

BENT

Bent are a band that really found their footing in 2014 with the release of debut full length Non Soon on Virtual Cool late last year.  This song is called Squares and Spheres and I think it might be a new one.  I liked it.

100%

This was 100%'s second ever show, after releasing an excellent 4 track demo in December.  This song is called Sour and is not on the demo so I'm guessing it is new.  It has been a joy to watch new bands like 100% along with other electronic synth influenced bands like Multiple Man and Workshop come to the forefront of Brisbane music in-between blog posts.

Meat Thump

This is a rough video collection of Meat Thump performances. The band was solely the work of Brendon but as you can see from the constantly changing line up, he had the support of many friends around him who helped to flesh MT out into a full band. These shows were all played to an audience of 20 people or less and, although Meat Thump did make it down to Sydney and Melbourne during it's brief slog, these are all from Brisbane.

WHITE COP

WHITE COP

A few weeks ago Brendon came over and while enjoying some beer and wine we started talking fondly about our much hated toilet punk band WHITE COP, which had broken up almost 2 years previous. We laughed at all the stupid shit that happened but Brendon told me that White Cop was the best 6 months of his life. It was his idea of freedom I guess. The band consisted of Brendon on guitar, Bill on vox, Noob on bass and myself on drums. I don't think we played more than 5 shows but we managed to record a 4 song cassette in December 2009. We also (strangely enough) made a music video.

The video was mostly shot around a vacant lot in Woolloongabba, across the road from The Gabba stadium. January 2010 I think. Afterwards we walked to the Red Brick Hotel and filmed some other stuff (Bill ordering a beer, Brendon playing Keno) before getting kicked out so we walked down the road to the Clarence Corner and shot the bit where Noob takes a piss. It was filmed by Glen Schenau and then edited together by Andrew McLellan.

The Clubhouse - November 12, 2009

This is probably the best live footage of White Cop you're going to get (There isn't much). It was an awful venue in Fortitude Valley which I think we were banned from afterwards. The show was insane and awesome with Bill offending everybody in the room then breaking the microphone within the first few minutes. Things just kind of went in a natural direction from there.

The cassette will be re-released soon on a one sided 12" through Leather Bar Records. Until then:
